House Dems: Pass the Senate Health Care Bill

Urge House Democrats to pass the Senate's version of the health care overhaul.

To the Democratic members of the House of Representatives:

Pass the Senate version of the health care bill, and do it fast. It's far from perfect, but it represents an enormous improvement over the status quo, and we may not see another chance at reform in this generation. Additionally, coming together to pass the bill will show the country, and particularly your constituents who voted for you to help President Obama enact health care reform, that you can actually get something done. Passing a decent bill is smart politically and it's good policy.

And dare I say it, but do it even if you fear that it will cost you your seat. It is the right thing to do. We elected you to help us, not to protect your seat. Several months ago, President Obama stated that he would rather be a one-term president than see health care reform defeated. That's the attitude the House Democrats should have; generations and generations after will praise you for your courage, and you might be surprised at the voters now who would reward you for showing your willingness to stand up for what is right, rather than what is easy.
