Providing healthcare options for women suffering from Fistulas (rectal, abscess, vaginal etc.)

We are writing and pleading that you become our voice and hear our suffering. We understand that women outside of the US are struggling with "fistulas" but there are also women in your own neighborhoods, suffering from this awful condition today. We all have a story and it is right here at home. We all have undergone 2, 5, 6, 7 and even 9 surgeries trying to correct something that should be easier to fix. We have searched up and down for the right doctors, but they are not easy to find. Due to the fact, this has been publicized as injuries that do not occur in developed nations when in fact they still do. Due to this incorrect publicity, most American obstetrics & medical schools no longer teach upcoming doctors how to repair these or severe muscle tearings that do occur during childbirth or develop from other medical disorders. Due to lack of proper training, some doctors are performing surgeries in which they are not using the most up to date techniques or have had no formal training.

Many women are being left scarred (physically, mentally and emotionally), in worse physical shape than before surgeries and are required to keep searching for qualified doctors and further surgeries.

At this time there are only a handful of doctors who have been able to help, and many women affected do not have the insurance or the means to pay for these doctors services. The Fistula Foundation helps provide funding, doctors, and facilities, that are "walk-in" clinics for women in undeveloped countries yet there are no services or "surgical missions" within the United States to help US women suffering from these pathetic debilitating conditions. Many are lying in bed, ashamed, unable to hold their own babies because of the pain or the inability to move. Many of us struggle daily and cannot go to work because of the embarrassing symptoms that go with this condition.

We are asking to be heard, right here at home! We are asking for more research, solutions, awareness to (help implement proper training in medical schools), a voice to help us not have to go through the torture that so many of us have gone through in the hands of doctors who do not know how to fix this problem.

We are mothers, sisters, friends and wives who just desire to lead a normal life and cannot because of this condition that so many people are not even aware of.

The women and men below are uniting their voice in this letter and have suffered and are suffering from "FISTULAS" right here in the United States.

We are suffering unnecessarily. Our stories need to be heard and medical care needs to improve to help with this silent condition no one wants to talk about.

Sincerely,

For all of the women suffering from Fistulas!
