Make Cancer Drugs More Affordable for Patients

Making Oral Cancer Drugs More Affordable Will Improve Quality of Life for Cancer Patients

Congress is considering two bills that would require oral cancer treatments to be reimbursed in the same way as infusions and other treatments administered at hospitals and outpatient clinics (S.1566 and H.R. 2739). Currently, many oral cancer treatments are reimbursed the same as prescription drugs, with expensive copays and high out-of-pocket expenses that make them unaffordable. As a result, many cancer patients must opt for intravenous or injected chemotherapy that can result in more nausea, fatigue, neuropathy, and other side effects. Newer cancer drugs are now available in pill form, can be taken at home, have fewer side effects, and are extremely effective at controlling fatigue and other symptoms, thus resulting in less time away from family life and work.

As someone affected by Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia, a rare blood cancer, I believe that oral cancer treatment which allows me more time with my family and the ability to continue working should be reimbursed the same way as intravenous or injected chemotherapy.

Please help support this critical legislation to make cancer treatments more affordable for all by helping to pass S. 1566 and H.R. 2739.
